Buick officially revealed the new 2014 Regal today, which the company designed to be "a sportier and smarter" midsize sedan, at the New York International Auto Show.

The new model also includes new radar-and camera-based safety features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Change Alert according to a GM press release.

The new Regal will go on sale this fall, but pricing has yet to be decided according to company spokesman Nick Richards.

"The new 2014 Regal is more expressive, more connected and more technologically advanced," said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick Marketing in a company press release. "Nearly half of new Regal buyers are conquests who are new to Buick and they represent the youngest median age among the brand's lineup.

Adaptive Cruise Control is also standard according to GM. This new feature can sense traffic in front of the vehicle to adjust speed, including stopping the vehicle in heavy traffic and then picking up acceleration again when necessary.

New rear and front styling with wing-shape LED tailamps and daytime running lamps were designed by Ford to give the new Regal "a more contemporary and premium presence." The vehicles new interior includes features like a redesigned central instrument panel and console. A new fashion interior trim combination is also standard.

"The new Regal gives those discerning buyers more of the technologically advanced features they want in a modern luxury sedan, all with the style and refinement they expect from Buick," said DiSalle in the company press release.

GM will offer the Regal with a new 2.0L turbo engine which delivers 18 percent more horsepower than its predecessor, which equals 259 horsepower.

GM also revealed that they will offer the Regal with a 2.4L engine with Buicks eAssist technology which delivers regenerative braking capability. Six-speed automatic transmissions come with both engines, although a six-speed manual is also available for the Regal GS according to GM.

The new LaCrosse was also revealed at the New York Auto Show for the first time, and will be released this summer with a number of new features and a brand new interior design. GM released details for the new model a day before the vehicle was revealed.
