The 2018 Subaru Ascent was first previewed as a concept car coded Viziv-7 during the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. It took the company a year of drawing, editing, and planning before a production worthy car was created.
When Subaru Motors decided to drop the Subaru Tribeca from its inventory, it has been the company's oldest and least popular. But to high demand for SUV with a 3rd row, Subaru needs to re-join the fray and fast. The 2018 Subaru Ascent was built bigger than the Tribeca, it would be marketed as 3-row vehicle.
Car and Driver reported that possible engines are being speculated. A 250 HP, 2.0 liter flat 4 engine could power the 2018 Subaru Ascent. The 3.6-liter flat six which is a combination of petrol and hybrid engine could do the work. What is sure about the vehicle is that it would have a variable automatic transmission controlling all its four wheels. The design will be patterned after the Impreza and high strength steel would have a significant usage. Also, the engine will be in front for a low center of gravity. That would surely benefit handling capability and crash safety.
The 2018 Subaru Ascent will be the longest car in Subaru's inventory. It would inches longer than the Outback stretching to 117.7 inches wheelbase. It would be marketed as a 7-seater 3-row family car. Ever since Subaru discontinued the Tribeca, big car enthusiast had no other choices but switch to other brands.
2017 is a year of SUV's and every auto brand has an SUV to offer. From the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe, 2017 Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, 2017 Dodge Durango and the list goes on. With the planned introduction of the 2018 Subaru Ascent, it could regain its market share of big car sales against SUV's with a similar engine like Mazda's CX-9 and Nissan Rogue according to Cars Guide.
The 2018 Subaru Ascent is expected to debut at the New York Auto Show this April. Base price could start at $30,000.00 going up to the mid $40,000.00 for higher trims.
