The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is most famously known as James Bond's car. It was the car driven that first appeared in Goldfinger and with every new movie, the public was able to see more and more of it.
According to Jalopnik, the DB5 has earned the title of "the most famous car in the world" at one point or other thanks to the movie. One reason for this is that Goldfinger is arguably the best among the Bond franchise. The movie grossed over $51 million dollars at the time which is very good considering that it had a budget of $3 million dollars. While that amount doesn't seem very high now, it was astronomical back then!
The DB5 stood out as one of the most iconic pieces that made James Bond who he is. After all, a spy needs an equally cool car to be seen in. After Goldfinger came Thunderball and the Aston Martin was once again seen on film. While it had less screen time in the new movie, it still made a memorable performance.
It was equipped with bullet-proof windows, a variety of defense mechanisms, and revolving number plates. The most interesting thing about the car was its ejector seat. All of this and more left a lasting impression on the audience. But even without all of the gadgets, the Aston Martin DB5 is a truly beautiful car.
In another report by CNN, it was stated that the recent Bond film "Skyfall," saw the return of an Aston Martin DB5. It is not available for $450,000 used. While it isn't cheap, this is 10% the price of the one used in Goldfinger and Thunderball. The original James Bond DB5 was able to fetch $4.6 million dollars back in 2010 at an RM Auctions.
The DB5 is truly a beautiful car and the most iconic Bond car in history. While there are several other Silver Birch Aston Martin's out there. Nothing will compare to the one we saw in Goldfinger. Is this your favorite Bond car? Share your thoughts and comments below.
