Skoda has just released a teaser photo of its upcoming electric car ahead of its launch in the upcoming 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. The automaker seems to be creating more hype for the new EV as the photo teases a coupe-like silhouette and the crystal glass art.
Although the teaser photo reveals a very vague image, the shape of the upcoming EV can be spotted to have a slope in the roofline. The image also reveals a similar front and rear lamps of the new generation Superb design language. Carwale reports that Skoda has mentioned that the new design got its inspiration from Czech crystal glass art which is symbolic of an excellent craftsmanship yielding "an expressive, emotionally charged design which harmoniously combines aesthetics and functionality."
Previously at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Skoda chief executive officer Bernhard Maier confirmed in an interview with AutoExpress that they are prepping up an electric surprise for the upcoming 2017 Shanghai Motor Show.
Bernhard Maier teased that they are going to show a surprise in Shanghai. The chief executive officer further mentioned that the planned surprise will open the minds of the public to how Skoda defines the electrical mobility concept.
The chief executive officer also shared the company's timeline for the upcoming electric vehicle. According to Bernhard Maier, 2019 will witness Skoda's initial introduction of a plug-in hybrid Superb.
Moreover, he also detailed that Skoda is targeting a 2020 release of its first purpose-built fully electric car. By "purpose-built" the CEO explained the company is going to launch an all-new model of an electric car and not just an electric version of one of its existing models.
Bernhard Maier admitted that it is a major goal as the company progress into the future. He also emphasized that the company sees the bigger potentials of the electric car market and they are challenged to come up with a unique model.
The CEO also shared that they understand that the electric vehicle range is a brand new technology. The company envisions that by 2020, there will be improved infrastructure focused on electric mobility which it can utilize for its new models of electric vehicles.
Bernhard Maier humbly confessed that Skoda does not pursue to pioneer or reign in every new technology. Skoda is just focused on analyzing what is suitable and beneficial for its valued followers.
