Vehicle Spotlight: Dean and Sam's 1967 Chevrolet Impala from 'Supernatural'

Supernatural would not be complete without the iconic 1967 Chevrolet Impala that Dean and Sam inherited from their father. More details here.

Supernatural has been on the air for 12 seasons. In all 12 of those seasons, Sam and Dean have relied on their ever trust 1967 Chevrolet Impala to bring them from one adventure to the next. What makes the vehicle so special?

According to a report by Driving, the 1967 Chevy Impala featured on the hit TV series is a hardtop with 502 cubic inches of power and 18 feet of badass. It has a roaring V8 engine that sounds like thunder, the battle-cry of an archangel, and even the Armageddon.

The show actually has several versions of the 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Over the years on the series, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have gotten the Impala in trouble at least once or twice. In order to make sure that the vehicle always looks great, the show has a "hero" car which is kept in tip top shape. Since the start of the series, only 3,000 miles has been added to it! That's a very low mileage considering that the show has been on the air for 12 seasons.

The Impala was originally owned by the Supernatural boys' father, John Winchester. It has provided the Winchester brothers with transportation, shelter, and a place to keep all of their demon-hunting tools. The guy who maintains it is a big car enthusiast named Jeff Budnick.

According to Nerdist, Budnick revealed that the 1967 Impala featured on the hit TV series is actually one of eight cars. The "hero" car was first purchased with only 12,000 miles. After 12 seasons of chasing monsters across the United States, it still has a very modest 15,000 miles on it.

The show has actually wrecked quite a number of Impalas throughout the years. The trashed versions are kept in their very own junkyard.

Supernatural is currently in its twelfth season. The Chevrolet Impala still makes an appearance in nearly every episode and is a major part of the TV series. A closer look of the Impala is found in the video below.
