It is announced that Samsung will feature a new virtual assistant in the Galaxy S8. The "S Voice" was not a very successful venture. After that, it is now revealed that Bixby will be the competitor for Siri the new assistant that'll debut with the Galaxy S8 on March 29th.

The necessity of Bixby is to help Samsung differentiate itself from Apple's Siri and Google's Assistant. On the forefront, Bixby seems different as it is meant to serve as a new voice-based interface for controlling the apps and not just to ask a few questions, reported Engadget.

"Instead of humans learning how the machine interacts with the world (a reflection of the abilities of designers), it is the machine that needs to learn and adapt to us," Samsung senior vice president InJong Rhee stated. "With this new approach, Samsung has employed artificial intelligence, reinforcing deep learning concepts to the core of our user interface designs."

It is still very unclear as to what is powering Bixby. Last year, Samsung joined hands with the AI assistant company Viv. There are reports which state that Bixby is actually based on an upgraded version of S Voice.

Bixby will be able to control almost everything that can be done in an application. It will also give the freedom to switch between voice and touch commands. Also, Samsung claims Bixby can understand incomplete commands, so you hopefully won't be forced to memorize rote phrases, reported Daily Mail.

From what it seems, Bixby will be the next-gen virtual assistant. It should be noted that Samsung has its set of flops as the S Voice never really kicked it off. However, it is expected that Bixby will change the way a virtual assistant functions.
