A recent study conducted by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) stated that teen driver fatalities have increased over the past year among 16-17-year-old drivers.
Traffic fatalities are also the overall leading cause of death for teens in the U.S., but parents can start reversing that trend with some help from Ford.

Research done by Ford's Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program shows young drivers tend to emulate how their parents drive. Approximately three quarters of teens surveyed say they rely on their parents advice when they start driving.
"By setting a good example behind the wheel, parents can increase the chances their children will adopt safe driving practices," said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services according to a Ford press release. "While state laws and educational programs are critical, ultimately, parents are the most critical component to keep their teen drivers safe."

In 2013, the company hopes to reach out to 200 different high schools to discuss their safe driving materials, thanks in part with the Ford Motor Company Fund and the Governors Highway Safety Association.
GHSA recognizes Ford Driving Skills for Life as the nation's most "comprehensive teen safe driving program," thanks to their community driving events, government grants, web-based learning courses, and free educational materials for parents and teachers.
"Inexperience is the leading cause of crashes in young drivers, and Ford Driving Skills for Life includes a variety of engaging and targeted methods to deliver key skills sets that boost young drivers' confidence and knowledge," said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. "Our mission is to make the roads safer for everyone."
