AMD continues its effort to reverse its fortune in the microprocessor industry. The chip giant recently hinted that it is working on a new processor aimed at the high-end desktop market. Touted to be a computing beast, the processor packs 16 cores and 32 threads.

It is expected that the upcoming AMD processor for the high-end desktop (HEDT) market is still based on the company's new Ryzen brand. The AMD processor is expected to be unveiled at this year's Computex conference and will go head-to-head with the rumored new Intel Core i7 processor that runs on the new X399 chipset, according to Tweak Town.

In terms of comparison, Intel's current flagship in the HEDT market is the Core i7-6950X. In several benchmark tests that pit the flagship Ryzen 1800X with the i7-6950X, the latter soundly beat AMD's chip. However, the introduction of this new Ryzen processor might spell trouble for Intel. AMD's upcoming processor packs 16 cores and 32 threads, the Intel Core i7-6950X only has 10 cores and 20 threads, according to Forbes.

Intel is poised to face an even steeper battle when the price is included in the discussion, and this is where AMD soundly beats its rival. The Core i7-6950X retails at around $1,700. Rumors claim that AMD will release the 16-core 32-thread Ryzen processor within the $1,000 price point. This is a disruptive strategy for AMD and will sure make high-end desktop users think twice before picking an Intel processor.

AMD has yet to release the full details about this hyped 16-core 32-thread processor. Computex will open its doors within the next two months and it is expected that AMD will slowly roll out bits of information about this upcoming beast of a processor.
