The all-new 2017 Honda CR-V has been redesigned and reengineered to have more style, more space, and more technology. It rides on a new chassis with more aggressive styling, and for the first time, Honda is offering it with a turbocharged engine.
For the 2017 model, new standard features include LED daytime running light, dual exhaust tips, and larger standard and available wheels. Interior space has been increased thanks to its longer wheelbase.
On the inside, more soft-touch materials have been added. An available 7.0-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface equipped with a Garmin-based navigation system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility, and the return of the volume knob. Other features available include LED headlights, a power liftgate with hands-free access, Auto High Beam headlights, and an electric parking brake with auto brake hold.
Honda has also added a new powertrain option to the 2017 Honda CR-V. Even though the 2.4-liter direct-injected engine comes standard in the 2017 CR-V LX, the EX and higher trims will be powered by a 1.5-liter directly injected turbo four that produces 190 hp.
The two engines are paired to a CVT and front-drive-wheel is standard, and all-wheel-drive is available. Honda claims that the new turbo engine will have the highest fuel economy ratings in the segment.
The new CR-Vs chassis features a MacPherson Strut suspension upfront and a multi-link suspension in the rear with stabilizer bars at both axles. Steering duties are already managed by Honda's variable Electric Power Steering.
When it comes to safety features, the new car is available with a lot of standard and available active safety and drive-assistance tech. Available tech includes Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, blind-spot detection, and auto high beam headlights.
In addition, Honda's "Honda Sensing" suite of active safety and driver-assistance tech is now standard on EX trim levels and above. Honda Sensing consists of road departure mitigation with lane departure warning, forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, and pedestrian sensing capability, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
The new 2017 Honda CR-V has a starting price of $26,327. It will take on its rivals such as the Ford Escape, Hyundai, Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Chevrolet Equinox.
