The latest member of the Corvette lineup, the 2017 Grand Sport is a car that carries the spirit of the original 1963 model. It combines power with lightweight chassis, and aerodynamics package to provide incredible grip and handling.
As reported by Car And Driver, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport comes with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 460 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It is available with an eight-speed automatic transmission and seven-speed manual. The engine propels the Grand Sport from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.
The base Grand Sport starts at $66,445.
There are plenty of additional options, such as the $4455 2LT package that includes a lot of minor elements, such as luggage net, front-view cameras, and heated and ventilated seats with memory. There’s $1785 Performance Data Recorder that produces high-quality dash-cam footage, and also includes navigation. Racing stripes cost additional $995, Carbon Flash badging costs $100, black wheels are $495, and the Heritage package adds fender and interior hash marks and floor mats for additional $795.
The base model comes with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that measure P285/30ZR-19 up front and P335/25ZR-20 in the back. The Magnetic Ride Control dampers are doing an exceptional job of quelling extraneous wheel movement. Even without these optional packages, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is anything but base.
GM Authority asked the community: should Chevrolet offer a hard top convertible variant for the Corvette? At first glance, hard tops offer greater safety and noise reduction and they can give the vehicle a unique exterior design. They also protect the cars from thieves, as they are less likely to make a scene by breaking the glass in public.
On the other hand, hard tops can also grace a vehicle with the ugly stick. They bring massive rear ends where the folded roof is stored. On top of that, the added weight is something the engineers do not want when they create a high-performance vehicle like the Corvette. One thing is certain, with or without a hard top, Chevrolet Corvette is a pure expression of performance.
