The Audi Q4 compact crossover has recently been confirmed to be launched in 2019. The automaker announced this during its annual press conference. This next-generation rakish 5-seater compact crossover is set to sit between the Q3 and Q5 in the company's lineup for 2019.
TT underpinnings. Details are scarce as of this writing but this next-generation compact crossover could ride on the MQB platform used in the TT and other compact vehicles from the VW group. According to AutoCar, the Audi Q4 compact crossover's overall length is about 4500mm, which 110mm longer than the current-generation Q3.
Also, a heavily curved roofline is set to be included in the compact crossover along with a liftback-style tailgate. Perhaps, we should expect that this crossover will borrow a few styling cues from the TT.
Engine. Official details regarding its powertrain have been kept sealed by Audi. But the upcoming Audi Q4 compact crossover could sport a next-generation 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with both having a 1.5-liter capacity.
Further, a new generation of the current 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and all-new 2.5-liter five-cylinder petrol unit with up to 400bhp could be dropped in the range-topping RS Q4 model.
With its TT Offroad concept, the upcoming Audi Q4 compact crossover was initially previewed back in 2015. "We offered a preview of this type of vehicle with the Audi TT offroad concept study three years ago," Audi's Rupert Stadler told reporters.
However, it wasn't called the "Q4" then as Audi didn't have the rights to the name, which were owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. But then Audi finally received permission to use "Q4" and use the Q2 for its subcompact SUV that was launched last year.
The Audi Q4 compact crossover is expected to have a base price of $34,610.80 or 28,000. And it is scheduled to follow the Q6 and Q8 in showrooms come 2019. The compact five-seater is set to compete against the upcoming BMW X2, Range Rover Evoque, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
