The new Tokyo Ghoul live action movie is now confirmed to be released on July 29 in Japan. This brings good news for the millions of fans of Sui Ishida's work which has gathered a lot after its anime release. The titular Ken Kaneki will be played by Masataka Kubota and Fumika Shimizu who will play as Touka Kirishima, may not be able to attend in different promotional tours for the upcoming movie.
Many fans of the animated series were happy to hear the news of a new film, as it has been two years since any anime content has been released. The film will have an impressive staff behind it. It will be directed by Kentaro Hagiwara with costume and mask design by Masanori Morikawa.
In spite all the issues surrounding around the retirement of on of the lead roles, the staff assured all the fans by saying, "We want to convey the ghoul and human drama and strong themes of the original work through the film. Those feelings will never change."
Tokyo Ghoul was first released way back in 2011 in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump, and it was then and to this day known as Ghoul: re. Both the anime and manga have achieved international success and is already set to replace One Piece on Adult Swim's Toonami anime block.
Meanwhile, previous reports suggest that the filmmakers stayed silent regarding Shimizu's retirement to join a Tokyo-based religious organization. They only revealed the incident as a series of news related to the cast and her name is still credited on the anime's official website.
In the new visual, it shows that Masataka Kubota is holding the iconic eye-patch-mask of Kaneki Ken which he will portray. He is also known as Light Yagami in the drama series based on the anime Death Note, where he got some awards for his outstanding performance. The image is an updated version of the original photo where the July 29 Roadshow text as the newest addition.
