The Porsche Macan is the German car manufacturer's smallest SUV at the moment. The 2017 model's new trim makes it more affordable and more fuel efficient that it already is.

The 2017 Macan now comes with a four-cylinder engine and is cheaper. The German car manufacturer has added a new trim to the 2017 Macan which is now considered the base trim. The new base trim is simply called the 2017 Macan and sports a four-cylinder engine.

The new Porsche Macan 2017 model's base trim carries a cheaper starting retail price than the original base trim at US$48,850. The price is US$4,745 less than the base trim of the 2016 Macan.

The base trim's four-cylinder engine is less powerful than the previous model's base trim and the other four trims of the 2017 Macan. The rest of the 2017 Macan trims actually sport six-cylinder engines.

However, the new trim's four-cylinder engine is turbocharged and produces 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This still allows the 2017 Macan to provide a strong cruising speed that is known on most, if not, all of the company's vehicles.

The new engine is lighter than the other 3-liter and 3.6-liter six-cylinder engines found in other trims. This makes the base 2017 Macan 2010 pounds lighter than one with a V6 engine at 3,902 pounds. The four cylinder's lighter weight and fuel efficiency actually produced better fuel economy ratings than the other trims' engines.

Its EPA ratings show 20 miles per gallon in city driving and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. The base 2017 Macan's engine has a 19.8-gallon gas tank that runs on premium fuel. Its travel range on a single full tank of premium gasoline is an impressive 400 miles.

In other news related to the Macan, Porsche North America recently issued a recall over faulty passenger occupant detection sensors that could result to airbags not deploying properly and causing harm. Other vehicles affected include the 911, Boxster, and Cayman.
