Fossil recently announced that it is releasing the Android Wear 2.0 to some of its current-generation smartwatches. The smartwatch maker confirmed that it is releasing the latest operating system update to its Q Wander, Q Marshall, and Q Founder smartwatches today.

A handful of smartwatch makers have promised to release the Android Wear 2.0 update, yet Fossil is one of the only few to actually roll it out, according to Engadget. Luxury clockmaker TAG Heuer, which have also dipped its toes into the smartwatch market, said that the update will not be released on its devices until the end of the month.

The new update brings quite a handful of nifty upgrades to smartwatches. According to The Verge, the latest update brings the Google Assistant feature to smartwatches. Updated smartwatches can also reply directly to text messages using the keyboard, Smart Reply, or handwriting feature.

The Android Wear 2.0 is the first major update released by Google for the smartwatch platform. The update brings new features that were not available in its first iteration. One of these is the LTE function. Smartwatch owners can also customize their watchface with the update.

There are also a lot of upgrades made on fitness tracking features and sensors. Smartwatches can now track user locations using GPS without the need for a smartphone. Moreover, the Google Fit App can now automatically detect users when they are doing workouts.

The Android Wear 2.0 update is not perfect, though. Since the rising popularity of smartwatches, users have complained about the lack of battery saving features. Most smartwatches can only last for a full day before being charged again. Surprisingly, Google has yet to address this lack of battery saving capabilities in its latest update.
