The competition for the best compact luxury sports sedan continues. The brands analyzed were the Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW 330i, Jaguar XE 25t, Audi A4 2.0T Quattro, Cadillac ATS 2.0T, Volvo S60 T6 R-Design, Infiniti Q50 2.0T, Mercedes-Benz C300 and the Lexus IS 200t F Sport.
The comparative analysis was done based on styling, overall appeal, driving experience and brand image. There were nine analysts who conducted the test by beginning with the basic criteria of $399/month lease, turbocharged 2.0-litter four-cylinder engine and four doors.
The comparative tests were done travelling thousands of miles trying to abuse the car to test its maximum capacity. The experts took weeks of studying and analyzing the nine contenders.
In terms of driving experience, the Alfa Romeo Giulia has outsmarted the other eight compact luxury sports sedans. This model accelerated really fast and yet was still able to provide a comfortable ride. The expert enjoyed the Alfa Romeo Giulia's quick steering and responses. The chassis also supported the comfortable ride by eliminating every bump feel. In fact, the Alfa Romeo Giulia became a favorite from the majority of drivers who tested the 9 compact luxury sports sedans.
Ranking second to the Alfa Romeo Giulia is the Cadillac ATS 2.0T. The steering wheel and chassis of the Cadillac ATS 2.0T proved its powerful worth although it offered a little less luxury in the quality of the ride.
Unfortunately, it was the BMW 330i that gave the least comfort and speed compared with the other eight contenders. Although it provided comfort during the rigorous ride, it was not as outstanding as the other contenders.
Moreover, the drivers had difficulty handling the steering wheel of the BMW 330i. Experts from MotorTrend say the brand has not improved this long-overdue issue until now.
With regard to performance, the Audi A4 2.0T Quattro has overpowered them all. The Audi A4 2.0T Quattro is the fastest compact luxury sports sedan among the 9 contenders.
The Audi A4 2.0T Quattro was able to glide swiftly both in a straight line and around the figure-eight test track. The experts point to the all-wheel drive and dual-clutch transmission of the Audi A4 2.0T Quattro that enabled the sedan to outperform the others.
On the contrary, the BMW 3 Series unbelievably fared up to be just average, when it has been reigning in this category for decades. However, the experts still vouched for the BMW 330i's linear acceleration, excellent transmission programming and minimal turbo lag.
Meanwhile, looking at the cockpit, the Mercedes-Benz C300 sports the most luxurious interiors. Ranking second is the Audi A4 2.0T Quattro while the Lexus IS 200t F Sport came out on the third spot.
