2 Dead In Police Standoff, Gunman Killed Himself Barricaded at Home With Three Children (VIDEO)

Two people are dead in Los Angeles after a gunman killed a man, then barricaded himself in a home with three children inside while firing at police officers on the scene.

The children were reported safe, but a woman believed to be the gunman's wife was taken to the hospital in grave condition, local ABC station KABC reported.

The gunman fatally wounded a man sitting in a truck outside the house, he also fired shots at police arriving on the scene before retreating into a home, barricading himself and continuing to fire at officers, the reports state. The incident began around 3 a.m. Friday.

Nearly two hours into the standoff, the report stated two children came out of the house. The children were believed to be 8 and 3 years old. When officers spoke them they said their "mom and dad" were dead, the Associated Press reported.

Upon entering the home, officers found the gunman dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, reports said. The woman believed to be the gunman's wife was thought to be dead at first, but has since been taken to a hospital.

A 1-year-old child was also in the home. The other two children are expected to be OK, ABC reported. All three children were taken away by police.

"They'll be in our custody until we identify relatives," Deputy Chief Robert Green said, according to the AP.

The names of the victims have not been released.
