2017 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2017 Honda CRV Battle: Which Crossover Reigns Supreme? See What Experts Say

Two of the greatest Japanese car manufacturers make two of the best crossovers considered as the fastest selling vehicles in the U.S. The 2017 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2017 Honda CRV are two of the best players in the segment and is inevitably compared. Between the two crossovers, which one is the best? Industry experts find it challenging so will there be a winner?

According to Motor Trend, various points are laid down to determine which is better in different categories. One of the most important aspects is the crossover's acceleration.

In this aspect, the 2017 Honda CRV has a clear advantage as it is known to be a faster crossover. It comes with 1.5-liter turbo four engine which is relatively better compared to that of 2017 Toyota RAV4. Tests also revealed that the 2017 CRV can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds beating 2017 RAV4's 8.7 seconds.

Driving experience is also of the essence. In this aspect, the 2017 Honda CRV wins the round. As tested, it felt light and was able to negotiate winding roads pretty fairly. The 2017 RAV4 also provided good driving experience, however, the CRV is significantly smoother and more responsive because of its CVT.

In terms of looks, 2017 Toyota RAV4 is definitely a game changer, especially its Platinum model. The RAV4 has single color look without the contrasting black lower trim pieces on most models. It also has an interesting color called Cinnamon giving it an altogether exotic appeal. The 2017 Honda CRV is highly patterned from its previous generation so not much has changed.

As added by The Car Connection, the 2017 Honda CRV is significantly leading with its People's vote. The 2017 CRV has 233 votes compared to 2017 RAV4's 151 votes. The CRV is also leading in terms of overall ranking, garnering 7.6 points compared to RAV4's 7.3.

Both the CRV and RAV4 are impressively safe. However, the 2017 RAV4 has five stars overall and gets Good rating from the IIHS. It is packed with advanced safety features such as the forward-collision warnings and automatic braking mechanisms. It also has blind spot monitors with rear cross-traffic monitoring with the Tech Package. The 2017 Honda CRV has collision avoidance tech as standard on EX and above trim levels.

The all important value for money comes in the picture. With this, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 is more affordable than the 2017 Honda CRV. The Toyota offers JBL sound system but Honda's top interface feels a step ahead of the Entune touchscreen system of the RAV4 making things even more complicated.

So which is the winner in this challenge? BOTH! Yes, both are winners in its own right. Though both are considered crossovers and belonging to the same price range, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 and 2017 Honda CRV are two different vehicles enough to be a stand out on their own. There can never two winners, however, in this case, it is possible. The video below shows a great comparison between the two crossovers so see which wins.
