The new Apple iOS 10.3 update is due to be released within the next couple of weeks. However, there is a growing concern among tech experts about the possibility of completely wiping iPhone storages because of this new update.

The iPhone iOS 10.3 update will introduce Apple's new file system. Developers who were able to test the update through the beta program said that the new file system called Apple File System (APFS) will replace the old system HFS+ which has been used by iOS and other Apple operating system since 1998.

Apple users are warned that the iOS 10.3 update will automatically convert their files to the new file system should they decide to upgrade their devices, according to Mashable. While this is perfectly normal, they should be wary when some issues occur during the updating process.

The two file systems, HFS+ and APFS, are incompatible. If any unforeseen issue occurs during the update, users might lose all of their data for good without any chance of recovering it. Apple has yet to comment about this issue. According to GizmoTimes, the most practicable workaround this issue is to make sure that everything is properly backed up prior to installing the new Apple iOS 10.3 update.

The new APFS file system is optimized for SSD and Flash storage options. This new file system focuses on encryption and can utilize the computing powers of new hardware. On the other hand, the older HFS+ was engineered way back before the first iPhone was ever released so it has its own set of flaws as well.

Aside from this possible problem with the file system, some beta developers also reported that the new system might not support older 32-bit applications. Apple has yet to address these concerns, although there are speculations claiming that the tech giant should be able to patch things up prior to the release of Apple iOS 10.3 update before the end of the month.
