2018 Honda Odyssey: A Minivan Perfect For Families And Loaded With New Technologies

The 2018 Honda Odyssey is all new this 2017, and it features some styling tweaks that make it more like a tall wagon than around bus. Along with an updated look, upgraded mechanics, and a full complement of connected and safety tech, the new model reaffirms its place as a minivan benchmark.

John Mendel, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc, said; "This new Odyssey raises the stakes for family-friendly packaging, performance, and technology in the minivan segment. "In all aspects of its design, the new Odyssey is made to keep every member of the family happy, no matter the seating position, no matter the destination."

The new 2018 Honda Odyssey is overhauled underneath, placed atop a new chassis and a new rear suspension that has been repackaged to be less intrusive and open up a class-leading cargo space. Up front, a new grille features a solid silver bar connecting the Honda badge to the headlights. The new grille mimics the design of other new Honda vehicles, including the 2017 Honda Civic.

The new Odyssey will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 280 hp. It offers two available new transmissions - a 9-speed automatic and a 10-speed automatic. It will be the first kind in a minivan, giving a more confident and refined performance.

On the inside, the new model features high-grade materials including a soft-touch instrumental panel. The meter features a brand new 7-inch, full-color TFT display, and the center dashboard features an 8-inch high-resolution Display Audio touchscreen interface.

Honda has made the seating even more flexible with its new Magic Slide seats. With the middle seat removed, the other two seats can now easily slide to the side and lock into one of five selectable positions, making it a cinch to move around the minivan.

The new Odyssey also comes packed with new technologies. The new Cabin Watch System uses a camera to view the passengers, even at night, using infrared vision on the large central display. Drivers can use the Cabin Talk to communicate with second and third-row passengers via stereo speakers or the rear entertainment systems headphones.

Other standard features include heated and ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control, stain-resistant leather, wireless device charging, a hands-free power liftgate and the HondaVac vacuum in the rear cargo area. In addition, it also comes with in-car Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the optional rear entertainment system with a 10.2-inch drop down the display.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey also comes with the latest safety tech which includes the Honda Sensing feature package, which comes with automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, rear-cross traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors. The new Odyssey will go on sale this spring.
