AMD has already revealed what Ryzen is all about. Having spoken about its capabilities, the company will now want to put Ryzen into functional use. AMD, recently, hinted that it will refresh the Zen processor core architecture in another family of desktop CPUs.

AMD did not take the easy route to develop the product. It did not just build on the existing Excavator processor core architecture (2015). While making Zen, the company started from the scratch. The hard work paid off as the new Zen can execute more instructions per clock cycle than the previous architecture. A clock cycle is a period between the two adjacent pulses of the CPU's electronic oscillator.

The desktop CPUs is code-named as 'Pinnacle Ridge.' Pinnacle Ridge will be based on the architecture AMD currently dubs as Zen 2. AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that the company has finalized the modifications and upgradations that it wants to bring to the Zen core architecture in the upcoming "Zen 2" refresh and into "Zen 3." This will ensure that the performance is enhanced in comparison to the "Summit Ridge" chips that are currently in use, reported Digital Trends.

Though there is no official statement made, based on the projected numbers, it is expected that Zen 2 will have a leap of around 65 percent in Instructions Per Cycle over Excavator, and around 80 percent better performance with Zen 3. In addition to that, it will also display process node improvement, compatibility with faster DDR4 memory, and many more features.

AMD's plans did not stop here. The company plans to release APUs based on its Zen processor core architecture as well. This is codenamed as Raven Ridge. These all-in-one chips are scheduled to appear in the latter part of 2017, reported WCCFTech.

Also, it is expected that the new set of CPUs will be available in the retail market in the first part of 2018. It is expected that Pinnacle Ridge will be unveiled in the latter part of 2017.
