The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R is set to debut this weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge race in Florida. Illinois-based Blackdog Speed Shop campaigns the new racing variant of the ZL1 1LE. It will have Tony Gaples and Lawson Aschenbach as its drivers.
The Chevy ZL1 was first launched in 2012 and has since developed a reputation for being the Camaro muscle car. The new 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE was a surprise reveal that many believed was only good for burnouts. The new vehicle came out at the Daytona International Speedway ahead of the Daytona 500 weekend. It is an optional package for the 2018 Camaro ZL1 coupe with a resulting 3-second quicker lap time around the GM Milford Proving Grounds.
According to a report by Auto Blog, the new GT4.R will debut this weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge race. The race will be in St. Petersburg, Florida. The new GT4.R will join the Pirelli World Challenge's GTS class as well as the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge's Grand Sport Class. It will officially debut in that series at the Circuit of the Americas in May at Austin, Texas.
The new Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R has the production variant of the ZL1 1LE track-day special as its basis. In its production guise, the ZLE 1LE is capable of 650 horsepower with a supercharged LT4 engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. It has improved aerodynamics and track-adjustable suspension that really shows off its racing glory.
In another report by Jalopnik, the new Camaro GT4.R is built to the GT4 spec. It is a lower cost and lower speed variant of the GT3. It has an aggressive front with air deflectors and dive planes. This really gives the car more of the downforce that it needs. The stock rear wing allows it 300 pounds of downforce.
The new Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R will be a truly exciting car to behold this weekend. How do you think it will perform? Share your thoughts and comments below!
