F1 Champion Makes His Dream Come True By Building His Own Supercar

Seventy-year-old Emerson Fittipaldi has won the Formula One championship in 1972 and 1974, as well as the Indianapolis 500 in 1989 and 1993. After accomplishing one of his dreams, he built a team to make his other dream come true. He built a supercar that bears his name into reality.

According to Top Gear, Emerson Fittipaldi designed his car with the help of Italian design house Pininfarina. The car is called Pininfarina EF7, and it comes with 592 horsepower V8 engine with 310 pound-feet of torque. The engine is specifically designed by the German race and performance car specialist HWA, and it is not allowed on public roads. Number seven in the name of the car comes from the fact that Emerson has seven children. He said that the EF7 is a top performing track car that is conceived for the gentleman driver and destined for limited series production. The car combines extreme performance with an immediacy of use, even for a non-professional race car driver.

Motor 1 reported that the car is based on a carbon-fiber monocoque design. It is specifically designed for safety in side-impact crashes. After witnessing GT cars being T-boned in races, Emerson Fittipaldi and his team decided to beef up the door sills at either side of the two passengers. The car is inspired by a shark, which can be seen when you look the car in profile. The pointed front nose and angular haunches definitely resemble a shark.

There will be a total of 39 cars produced, and each car will be customized to represent one of Fittipaldi’s race wins. That means that every single car is going to be unique. The EF7 is going to be assembled at HWA’s facility in Stuttgart, Germany. Every customer will have to visit the HWA so their cars can be fitted for them. The seats are going to be fixed, which means the engineers will take molds of the driver and create custom padding to fit them. However, the steering wheel and the pedal box will be adjustable. Fittipaldi wants every driver to have their eyes at the same level for optimum forward visibility.

EF7 is a serious race car that is designed by one of the best racers, with a design from a famed styling house and technical know-how from a talented racing enterprise. Even if you won’t be the one owning this car, you can still drive the car as long as you own a PlayStation. The EF7 will hit the Gran Turismo racing simulator franchise.
