The missing Ford Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the iconic car chase for the 1968 movie 'Bullitt' was recently found in Mexico. It has since been restored and is now ready for auction!

Previously, the 1968 Bullitt Mustang was reported to be in Mexico. At the time of the previous report, Kevin Marti, a top expert on classic Ford Mustangs was headed to the southern country to verify the car's authenticity. A new report from the Los Angeles Times revealed that the McQueen Mustang has in fact resurfaced. In addition, the iconic muscle car has reportedly started restoration by its founders: Ralph Garcia Jr. and Hugo Sanchez.

Garcia Jr. owns a Paramount-based body shop and has made a career building replicas of the "Eleanor" Mustang from "Gone in 60 Seconds." Sanchez, an associate from Mexico, contacted Garcia to tell him about a clean Mustang fastback that could be a good candidate for restoration as an "Eleanor." Sanchez brought the car to Garcia's shop in Mexicali, Mexico. While scheduling the vehicle for restoration, Sanchez told Garcia that the muscle car's vehicle identification numbers discovered that it could be the Steve McQueen Ford Mustang. And the rest is history.

While recent movies such as "The Fast and the Furious" and "Gone in 60 Seconds" were good. Those movies cannot compare to the 1968 film "Bullitt." According to many movie historians, it is the best car scene ever filmed in history. Car historian and former automotive museum consultant Ken Gross called the muscle car "the Holy Grail of the Mustang car crowd." Gross believes that car could be worth $1 million at auction.

In another report by Fox News, Garcia has reportedly already begun restorations on the car. It now has a fresh coat of green paint and a replica license plate like the original. Unfortunately, the restoration might have lowered the car's value. Garcia and Sanchez have already been contacted with several offers to buy the vehicle.

The Steve McQueen Ford Mustang from Bullitt could fetch millions at auction. Additionally, the movie's 50th anniversary is coming up as well. The restored 1968 Bullitt Mustang will likely be seen at Barrett-Jackson soon.
