South Korean car manufacturer Ssangyong unveiled a mid-size SUV at the Geneva Auto Show. The concept SUV is called XAVL and it is quite the looker.

The XAVL Concept will be the basis for a future production model and will differ greatly from it. One of the features of the XAVL that will definitely not find its way to the production model would be side mirrors. The side mirrors have an integrated LED strip and look impressive. However, they are just too small to use for everyday driving. In addition, it is quite noticeable that the XAVL does not have any door handles. The production model will most likely have door handles for purpose of convenience.

The car company has stated that the vehicle will not make a mid-size SUV identical to the concept vehicle that currently being exhibited at the Geneva Auto Show. It should be expected that the production model will sport a name other than XAVL.

The South Korean car manufacturer intends to create a production vehicle that is a combination of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and an SUV. This would mean a vehicle with a lot of interior space and off-road capabilities.

Auto news website auto evolution surmises that the XAVL-based production model "will not have a body-on-frame configuration". The website says that "unibody is the most likely configuration for the production sibling of the XAVL Concept".

According to SsangYong, XAVL stands for "eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long". The vehicle is an evolved version of the XAV Concept and was inspired by the first generation Korando from the 90s.
