Chevrolet Now Offers Unlimited Data Plans With Its Vehicles, A First For A Car Manufacturer

Big mobile carriers will no longer be the only ones offering data plans to interested subscribers. Chevrolet has announced that it will be offering an unlimited data plan to drivers to use in American car manufacturer's vehicles.

American car manufacturer to offer unlimited data plan along with their vehicles. Chevrolet announced on Thursday last week that will be offering an unlimited 4G LTE data plan for drivers use with United States carrier OnStar. The data plan will be made available to vehicles sold after March 3 for US$20 a month.

Subscribers to the US$20 unlimited data plan will have access to a prepaid OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. This feature is enabled with the assistance of AT&T. OnStar is also offering a 250 megabytes day pass for US$5 and a 20 gigabytes pass usable for 12 months for US$150.

During the previous year, the company stated that its built-in hotspots had consumer over four million gigabytes of data. This prompted the company to proceed with offering drivers with the data plan for new vehicles sold. Alan Batey, the executive head of Chevrolet, said, "We have contractors bidding jobs in their Silverados, families streaming movies in their Suburbans and Malibus and everyone tapping into the cloud for music."

Along with the unlimited data plan, the American car manufacturer also announced nine new Special Edition Redline models. The company also mentioned that the new Chevy Cruze Diesel will have an EPA rating of 52 miles per gallon on the highway.

Unlimited data plans weren't always the norm as carriers were initially against the concept. However, with carriers competing with each other over a market of subscribers, it eventually did as the demand for the service quickly grew. This will most likely be the case for car manufacturers, too. It should be expected that the company's competitors will be rolling out their own unlimited data plans in the near future.
