Italdesign and Airbus have joined hands to create a new concept car. This concept has been designed mainly to avoid traffic and to beat traffic congestion.

According to the concept, the car will have the upper passenger compartment air-lifted by a drone. By doing so, the car can effectively avoid traffic. This concept is all set to be revealed at the 2017 Geneva auto show.

This new design has a reference in the past. This concept is very similar to the Italdesign Capsula concept from the 1982 Turin auto show. The 1982 Italdesign Capsula concept featured an Alfa Romeo chassis with interchangeable passenger compartments including a passenger car, commercial van, tow truck, minibus, and more.

Now, in 2017, it is reported that the new concept will feature a two-piece design. In this two piece design, there will be an upper passenger capsule sitting on an autonomous driving base, reported Motor Trend.

If the traffic is heavy and the roads are congested, the concept comes alive. In order to avoid traffic, a 16.5-foot by 16.5-foot drone would lift the passenger compartment off the base and fly the occupants the rest of the way to their destinations.

This is the first news that has been received in relation to the concept car. There is no further information that is available now. It has also not been revealed whether the autonomous base would show up on its own or not, reported Auto Week.

In another report, it was stated that Italdesign recently announced that it would build a small run of V-10 powered supercars. Italdesign would build these cars under its new "Italdesign Automobili Speciali" division. At the same time, Airbus is currently working on the Vahana. The Vahana is a self-piloted flying vehicle platform for individual passenger and cargo transport. It is reported that this will feature helicopter-style blades. The name Vahana is derived from Sanskrit.

It will be during the Geneva Motor Show that the concept will be revealed. It does seem that Italdesign and Airbus are trying their best to beat traffic and reduce congestion!
