The speculations that Affalterbach was developing a four-door AMG GT4 seems to be true, as what the teaser sketch showed. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 Concept will appear at the Geneva Motor Show this coming week bringing an extra set of doors.
The concept car will be powered by a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 powered super-saloon replacing the CLS Shooting Brake when it reaches UK auto shows in 2018. It will become AMG's third dedicated series production on its lineup, following on from the SLS and the current GT.
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 Concept will join the already announced R50 hypercar, powered by the V6 from the ongoing generation of Mercedes Formula One cars. It's also codenamed the X290, it is reported that it is the pet project of AMG Boss Tobias Moers, and anticipated to be called as a Bentley Continental GT and Porsche Panamera main rival.
Although it is already known to have styling cues of the two-door GT coupe, the four-door vehicle won't be built on the same chassis. Instead, it will have a different platform to the aluminum-intensive structure that forms the 911 rival. It will use the modular rear architecture from its parent company Mercedes-Benz and already used for the S63, C63, and E63.
Meanwhile, a new engine is tipped to be available in two states of tune from the start of sales, both standard 4Matic+ and S 4Matic+ models. Initial range-topping S 4Matic+ image, the GT4's powertrain number is expected to be at 611 hp.
Mercedes will have a strong lineup at Geneva. Aside from the GT4, it will also reveal its new E-Class Cabriolet, and a major update for one of its best-selling models in Austraila called the GLA compact SUV. Special Editions of the Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster and SLC coupe will also join the X-Class.
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 Concept will fully unveil itself at the Geneva Motor Show to give a better idea of what the performance brand has in stored for everyone. The Geneva Motor Show starts from March 9 to 19.
