Widely considered as the best motoring show on the planet, and probably one of BBC's greatest assets, "Top Gear" has once again pumped petrolheads with their much-needed motoring fix with the launch of the show's 24th series. The show premiered in the United Kingdom on March 5 and will be released in the United States weeks later.

"Top Gear" returns with Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid. This is the first episode without Chris Evans, who departed shortly after the launch of the previous season. Evans was criticized for his rather boastful and loud behavior in the set, something that distanced him from the film crew and his co-hosts.

"Top Gear" kicked off the opening of the series with a handful of flashy cars, and an interview with "James McAvoy, according to Jalopnik. The trio also had a picturesque road trip to Kazakhstan which was presented in a two-part segment reminiscent of the old "Top Gear."

Apart from the healthy and informational conversation from the trio of hosts, what stole the show was the Ferrari FXX-K, a £2 million supercar. Perhaps this is BBC's take on the extravagant segments of "The Grand Tour," the Amazon motoring show hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.

According to The Telegraph, there was also a subtle jab at "The Grand Tour" when LeBlanc said, "A high-mileage Maserati...a horrible idea." There is an episode in "The Grand Tour" where the hosts each bought a second-hand Maserati and drove it across France.

Compared to the previous season of "Top Gear," this new season is sober and simple. It serves as a wonderful relief to the loud and crass presentation back when Evans was still part of the show. Although still obviously idle, the chemistry of the three presenters sure needs time to fully develop. The comedy is there, it just needs time to find its track.
