Mercedes-AMG GT Debuts in Stunning Sketch Prior to Geneva Motor Show

Before its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, the Mercedes-AMG GT concept car was teased with a sketch. The sketch features the concept car in glorious red paint.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT is part of the division's 50th year anniversary. The car is expected to feature a 600bhp engine and a four-door saloon design. The production version of the car is expected to hit the road in 2018.

The Mercedes-AMG GT concept car features a coupe-like roofline and a four-door body. The concept car features a larger diffuser which many motoring experts said hints at a possible performance upgrade. Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG GT packs a 4.0-liter V8 engine, according to Auto Blog. The new engine replaces the CLS Shooting Brake which was previously used by Mercedes.

The engine is expected to feature dynamic mounts which are designed to suppress load changes, especially during hard cornering. It is also paired with the latest version of AMG's Speedshift MCT automatic gearbox. Mercedes has yet to confirm it but there are rumors claiming that the concept car will feature the latest version of the 4Matic four-wheel drive system.

The upcoming concept car is the third to bear the AMG performance badge. There is the existing GT model and the SLS model. The Mercedes-AMG GT will go head-to-head with a revered list of competition which includes the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, the Porsche Panamera, and the Audi S7. The car is the brainchild of AMG top executive Tobias Moers.

According to Auto Car, the Mercedes-AMG GT concept car is based on the modular rear architecture or MRA. The same architecture is used on the Mercedes C63, Mercedes S63, and Mercedes E 63. The architecture was specially modified to fit the four-door GT design which people with insider knowledge about the project describe as unique wheelbase and track width measurements.
