Mercedes is officially excluding the U.S on their Mercedes-Benz X-Class launch until midsize pickup trucks in the country continue to gain prominence. Apparently, the company wants to focus on their key markets that include Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
In a previous report by Auto World News, they reported that Mercedes might introduce the product to the US. With the pickup truck market continue to rise, it remains unknown why the company decided not to release in the country.
It is probably safe to assume that the company just don't want to risk selling in a country that had a 77 percent decline in midsize pickup truck sales from 2000 to 2013. However, the midsize pickup truck market already has grown to 83 percent recently.
Despite this, there is still more demand for full-size pickup trucks than mid-size pickup trucks. Full-size pickups reached total sales of $2.2 million in 2016, which is significantly higher than the midsize trucks that only had total sales of $450,000, USA Today noted.
If Mercedes do decide to launch Mercedes-Benz X-Class in the US, it will be the first luxury brand to do so. They will be different from other brands like Nissan and Toyota that only creates premium versions of the full-sized trucks.
For the new Mercedes car, the company temporarily forgets their dainty look and went full on a rogue. The Mercedes-Benz X-Class had an underbody that can protect its components from rocky terrain. It also has an electric winch that can pull the pickup truck out of trouble and 22-inch wheels for backup.
Mercedes will introduce new two concepts for this car, the Stylish Explorer and the Powerful Adventurer. The Stylish Explorer looks like an SUV that has bigger wheels. While the Powerful Adventurer has chunky tires and plastic protectors that were built for off-road toughness, Automotive News Europe reported.
When it comes to pricing, this new Mercedes pick-up truck tends to be more expensive than the Volkswagen Amarok pickup. Mercedes will debut Mercedes-Benz X-Class on March 7 and will also be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show on March 19.
