Oculus Slashes Prices of VR Products By As Much As 50%!

Tech companies are slowly easing themselves into the virtual reality technology industry with LG working on its own headset with Valve, HTC on a new headset as a follow-up to the Vive, Samsung's new Gear VR with Controller, and Google's Daydream View. Unfortunately for Oculus, sales have been on a decline recently causing the company to the slash off prices of its products.

VR tech company offers discounted products. The company's recent move of offering discounts on VR products is only one of the many ways the company is doing to break the financial barrier keeping potential users away from the technology. The company's VR products are priced in a manner that makes other VR technology devices appealing such as console VRs and the very affordable mobile VR headsets.

The company started out as an industry leader in virtual technology. Unfortunately, the company's position has slowly been slipping. Besides other tech companies putting out their own VR technology devices, the company's products lacked an appeal that engaged potential buyers such as the lack of touch controllers and the absence of initial full-room tracking both of which the HTC Vive has.

The price cut is not part of an on-going promotion but actually a move to make PC virtual reality "as affordable as possible". The company says that the move is crucial to the success and growth of the VR industry as a whole.

According to Jason Rubin, Oculus VP of content, "Console VR is less expensive and currently outselling PC VR, and even less expensive Mobile VR headsets, like our Gear VR device, are outselling Console VR," Rubin further added, "Bringing the higher quality of PC VR toward these lower price points is an obvious win for both consumers and PC VR. This price drop was as inevitable as it is beneficial. This is how the technology business works."

Starting March 1, the bundle with the Oculus Rift headset and Touch controllers will be US$200 cheaper at US$598. What used to be a US$199 standalone pair of Touch controllers is now US$99. Extra Oculus sensors are now priced at US$59 from US$79.
