Hit anime series "Yuri on Ice" has once again received a wave of accolades. The anime won the top prize in this year's edition of the Tokyo Anime Award Festival. The anime have also dominated domestic Blu-ray sales in Japan for two consecutive weeks.
"Yuri on Ice" won the coveted Animation of the Year: Anime Fan Award and the Television Animation Division award, according to Anime News Network. The Theatrical Animation Division award was snatched by "A Silent Voice." The awarding ceremony will take place in Ikebukuro, Tokyo on March 10 to 13.
The latest accolade is just one of the many awards "Yuri on Ice" keep on stacking on its cabinet. On top of critical accolades, the anime's popularity has also spread to several regions. According to Crunchy Roll, "Yuri on Ice" is the top anime on several countries including Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, Poland, and the Philippines.
"Yuri on Ice" have also dominated the domestic Blu-ray sales in Japan. According to Crunchy Roll, the third volume of the hit anime sold more than 33,000 units during its first week on the market. DVD sales also reached 13,000 units taking the second spot on the DVD sales chart list. Collectively, the anime has sold close to 100,000 Blu-ray and DVD units.
The recent awards and sales success of "Yuri on Ice" have somewhat shifted the attention of fans, which were anxious whether the anime will ever get a second season. Fans have been waiting for confirmation of "Yuri on Ice" season 2, however, the show's producers have yet to comment whether to add a second season to the series which aired its last episode in December 2016.
"Yuri on Ice," tells the story of aspiring figure skater Yuri Katsuki and his mixed feelings towards the sport and his normal life. Check out the trailer of the first season below.
