A new modernized Alpine A110 is back and it looks much like the concept car teased last year. The production version will finally make its debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. And finally, we know a bit more of this famed French sports car trademark.
What we know so far is that it has bigger mirrors compared with the concept version and is still gorgeous. Also, Alpine's now-parent company, Renault promised that the upcoming A110 will have an aluminum chassis and will be compact, agile, and light.
Since the new Alpine A110 pays homage to the 1961 A110 Alpine, it also shares the shape of the mainstay rallying sports car. The fiberglass rear-engined sports car won the first constructors' title when the World Rally Championship formed in 1973. So, basically, the name reflects "the timeless principles of compact size, light weight and agility," according to Renault.
RoadAndTrack points out that under the hood, it packs a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and puts out approximately 300 horses. The engine is mated to a double-clutch automatic gearbox, which comes standard.
Renault claims a 4.5-second 0-62 mph dash. But one of its biggest selling point is that the Alpine A110 is highly aerodynamic. It has a curb weight of 1,100kg, thus the name "110."
More details regarding its interior and infotainment system will be revealed once Renault shines its light on this 60's-inspired mid-engined sports car. Although it is highly impressive that it resembles as close as possible to the concept version, minus a few slight changes. The new Alpine A110 might become an early contender for the best-looking sports car and might steal the show during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The question now is whether or not the new Alpine A110 will make it to US shores. Since Nissan and Renault now has an alliance, we could probably hope for the best that the 60's-inspired sports car does make it dealership at either Nissan or Infiniti, as Renault doesn't have much option in the US.
