The 2018 Toyota CHR piqued the interest of car enthusiasts and industry experts when it was first officially introduced to the public during the Los Angeles Auto Show. Many immediately got attracted to its unexpected design, however, experts also wonder if its performance can measure up to its competitors in the subcompact vehicle category.
According to The Car Connection, it is quite pleasing that Toyota decided to layout the most adventurous design to date through the 2018 Toyota CHR. It can somehow be directly compared to Nissan Juke, which according to experts took a little while to analyze and digest. If that was the reaction towards the Juke, it is expected that more time is needed to fully understand all the curves and crests of the CHR.
The CHR is considered one of the smallest vehicles by Toyota. Among the hatchbacks, it is not the most petite. Looks can be deceiving in the case of the new CHR. Though small, it provides a comfortable and spacious ride for passengers. More flexibility is also offered by the rear seats being able to be folded flat along a 60/40 split.
The 2018 Toyota CHR is also expected to come with two versions. The more powerful version is the XLE and also comes with 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, touchscreen audio and rear-view camera. The XLE Premium on the other hand adds blind-spot monitors, power driver seat, and push-button start.
As added by CNET, the CHR concept was first seen back in 2014 during the Paris Motor Show. The CHR was actually supposed to be called the Scion which may be attributed to its youthful look. There are also reports suggesting that it will be available in the US only with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine which is capable of producing 144-horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque.
Unfortunately, there won't be much of powertrain available in the US. Industry experts are also disappointed for not having an all-wheel-drive capability which one of the most important factors in the world of crossovers.
There is no official word on the pricing, however, experts predict that it may come with around $24,00 price tag. This is considerably more affordable compared to other vehicles of its kind, so that is always a good thing. With the lack of powertrains, however, some may tune out.
The 2018 Toyota CHR is expected to be available in dealerships this coming spring. Few more months and experts will be able to widely experience what this crossover can offer. Though there are mixed reviews relating to the upcoming Toyota crossover, it is still expected to do well in terms of sales. It is, after all, still a Toyota.
