The 2018 Kia Stinger GT was recently testing in the snowy regions of northern Sweden. The vehicle was able to withstand temperatures of minus 15 to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
Hyundai Motor Group has a winter testing facility in Arjeplog, Sweden. According to Motor Trend, once the ice above the lake near HMG's testing facility is thick enough, the tests begin. All Hyundai, Kia, and Mobis vehicles undergo testing.
While there are 3.3 hectares of land-based test facilities on the shoreline, the frozen lake proves to be more of a challenge. The lake gave the 2018 Kia Stinger an extra 162 hectares of low-friction and obstacle-free running room. Its antilock brake systems (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control systems (TCS), and all-wheel-drive (AWD) systems were all tested on the lake.
The lake is around a meter thick and stays this way for around ten weeks. The hard winter testing process sees 6-day work weeks with 14-hour days for the Kia, Hyundai, and Mobi test engineers.
As previously reported, the 2018 Kia Stinger GT was one of the highlights of the North American International Auto Show. It is a five-passenger, four-door "coupe" available in both all-wheel and rear-wheel drive. The Stinger is not your ordinary Kia and it signaled the start of good things ahead for the company.
In a report by Wheels, the driving force behind the 2018 Stinger is the man behind it. Peter Schreyer has been developing this Grand Touring car for about six years. He has been with Kia for over a decade and worked as a designer on the Sportage, Forte, Optima, and Soul.
As a consequence of all his hard work, Schreyer became the Kia global president. He also kept the title of chief designer as well. This vehicle will not only be about something new, but it will also be about something with spirit.
The 2018 Kia Stinger GT will bring a new era for the Korean automobile manufacturer. It will be a car that is bold, beautiful, fun, and packed with plenty of spirits.
