2017 Skoda Rapid Facelift Revealed Ahead Of A Geneva Debut

Skoda is upgrading the classic and affordable family favorite, the 2017 Skoda Rapid with several technologies. The new model received a mild facelift, gaining a more refreshed look, new technologies, and a brand new engine option. The updates also apply to the Rapid Spaceback model.

At the front, the updated car features brand new headlights internals with bi-xenon main units underscored by LED driving lights. The lower part of the front bumper has also been updated with new fog light units and a full-width chrome bar on higher spec versions.

Skoda Australia PR boss, Paul Pottinger, said that it is anticipated that the 2017 Skoda Rapid will be more competitive against its rivals such as the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3. Better equipment levels including an expanded suite of driver safety and assistance technologies significantly set the car apart from its rivals.

Rear end changes extend to black-tinted tail-lights and an extended back window, while new alloy wheels design that ranges from 15 to 17 inches will be offered across the lineup. In addition, always-on internet connection available thanks to a SIM card on board, this allows passengers to access a wireless hotspot through their smartphones and tablets anytime.

Owners also will be able to remotely access vehicle information such as parking location, fuel capacity, and locking status. All of this can be done through its wireless capabilities.

Under the hood, the new model receives a brand new 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, as well as the current 1.4-liter petrol and turbodiesel units. However, the local model will continue to receive one powertrain, Pottinger said.

Other features will include electronic stability control, tire-pressure monitoring, auto emergency braking, driver fatigue detection, six airbags and a hill-climb assist. The updated 2017 Skoda Rapid will be making its world debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this early March and is already scheduled to go on sale locally September of this year.
