Sony revealed during their showcase for the upcoming PlayStation 4 that the first racing game for the new console will be called "Driveclub," designed as a socially-oriented racing game that's been in the works for over 10 years according to Sony.

The game was formally introduced during Sony's meeting in New York where they revealed details on the highly-anticipated PS4 for the first time, which will be released before the end of 2013.

Matt Southern, the head of the studio that created the MotorStorm PlayStation 3 games, said his studio had to wait over 10 years to start designing the game so that they could do so on hardware that would do the game "justice."

The game wouldn't have looked the way they envisioned it on PlayStation 3, so he held on to the idea and waited until Sony decided it was time to release a new system. Trailers and sneak peak photos have been leaked online recently to get fans pumped for the new game.

"You can drive in real clubs, asynchronously or in real time against other clubs all around the world," Southern said at the event according to VentureBeat.com. "Watch the drama unfold as others try to meet my challenge," whether 1-on-1 or in tournaments with thousands of players.

The game allows you to create your own car, drive it on different tracks, and post your scores according to Southern. "Driveclub" also allows users to create a challenge, pick the track you want to race on, the time of day and weather as well. Once you decide on all those options, you can ask your friends online to race you on the track.

For "Call of Duty" lovers, the game also promotes "team based racing", as you can form "clubs" with your friends to make your racing experience that much better according to Evolution Studios.
