A 2018 Hyundai Sonata was teased on social media, specifically on the company's official Facebook page. Definitely know how to reach their 21st-century clients. Ahead of its official unveiling next month in South Korea, it seems the upcoming sedan will feature a massive facelift, in the good sense of the word.

Translated from Korean, Hyundai's post reads: "...To fill your senses from the end to the end. #Dramatic Design_Change #HMG." Clearly, a sporty-looking, updated 2018 Hyundai Sonata features a grille design similar with the new Hyundai i30. 

Based on the posted sketches of the upcoming 2018 Hyundai Sonata, it traces the vehicle's evolution from the past 2 generations, reports CNET. Notice the standard Sonata, the sporty Sonata Turbo (this is sold in the US as the Sonata Sport 2.0T), and the current-generation version of the Sonata.

Now, the grille. Obviously, the grille took design cues from other Hyundai vehicles such as the Elantra GT and Accent, as it has been expanded and its hexagonal maw stretches towards the bottom of the front bumper.

It has fierce-looking and sleeker headlights with sharp intakes underneath. Don't forget the dramatic hood, which complements all other tweaked designs.  

At the rear, the spoiler lip of the trunk lid might have swelled up a bit, but the headlights now have sort of a triangular shape. Basically, it has a sleek back looking like a sports coupe.

There has been no word as to when the 2018 Hyundai Sonata will make its debut. No official word on the powertrains as well. But according to MotorAuthority, it might receive a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 185 hp, a 1.6-liter turbo-four with 178hp, or a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 245hp.

Given that this is an upgrade, well based on the facelift teasers, it might get a beefier engine. We will find out for sure once Hyundai takes the covers off.

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata could grace the New York Auto Show in April. But stay tuned until then as Hyundai will mostly likely throw in more teasers to keep the excitement going.
