The Supra is making a comeback. Namely, the 2018 Toyota Supra is bound to be the most significant model for the Supra line.
The two-door sports car was initially released in the 70s. It was made as a response to the Z cars. Despite this, 1987 remains the most outstanding year for the Supra.
1987 was the year when the first turbocharged model was launch. The turbocharged model boasts an enhanced performance which paved the way for future models.
Unfortunately, production for the Toyota Supra halted in 2002. That is all about to change with the 2018 model. Toyota made a brilliant decision by introducing a new generation of the two-door sports car in the form of the Supra.
The 2018 Toyota Supra release date is still unclear as of the moment. However, it was reported that the Japanese automotive manufacturer would introduce the new model this year.
As of right now, there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding this new model. There have been different opinions regarding its specs.
Some reports claim it's powertrain from four-cylinder to ten cylinders. Some predict it can be a hybrid under the hood. However, the most logical choice would be a gasoline engine or a hybrid.
In several spy videos of the 2018 Toyota Supra, fans can hear the sound of an electric motor accompanied by a V6 engine. If Toyota is looking to surprise the fans, a hybrid will be the best way to go.
On the other hand, Toyota could also go with a gasoline option. The company and BMW recently worked together and tried to gain synergy effect.
In fact, the BMW Z5 and Supra were even spotted road testing on the streets of Sweden. This is enough reason to believe that the powertrain used in the 2018 Toyota Supra can be the same as the Z5.
As for the price, no official statement has been released yet. However, it is safe to say that the Acura NSX is one of the Supra's main competitor. Which could mean that the price of the Supra will be significantly less than the NSX's $156,000 price tag.
Motor 1 also released a "leaked brochure" for the Supra. In their report, Motor 1 wrote: "As pointed out by one of our readers, the attached "brochure" is a supplement to Japanese magazine Holiday Auto, and as such it doesn't come straight from Toyota."
According to reports, Toyota will showcase a near-production Supra concept in October at the Tokyo Motor Show. Keep checking back on Auto World News for more updates.
