By the time the Geneva Motor Show rolls around, there might not be anything we don't know about the McLaren P1, which is to be officially unveiled next month.

McLaren released the long undisclosed engine specifications of the P1 on Tuesday. The information confirms what many suspected all along -- that the car will be blazing fast.

But what nobody seemed to have expected is that the P1 is a hybrid.

In addition to a 787 horsepower twin-turbo 3.8 liter V-8, the P1 will also have a lightweight battery-powered motor that will add an additional 176 horsepower, combining for a very speedy 903 horsepower, making the car the fastest hybrid in the world.

One of the coolest things about the battery pack is that drivers can use the P1's Instant Power Assist System, engaged by a button on the steering wheel, which will command the electric motor to release all of its power instantly for a Formula 1-like boost of speed.

The McLaren statement also states the electric motor is mounted directly on the engine and all drive is channeled through the dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox to drive the rear wheels. The electric motor will provide faster up-shifts, achieved through application of negative torque provided at the point of shift.

Switching the car to full E-mode offers upwards of 16 miles of emission-free driving, which will be great for driving the car in cities. The gasoline engine will take over automatically when the battery is empty to maintain drive and recharge the battery. The car is also equipped with a plug-in charger thatn can recharge the battery from empty in two hours.

Wednesday's announcement comes on the heels of last week's debut of interior images of the P1. 

McLaren states further details about the P1 will be released in the coming weeks ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
