The Mercedes-Benz X-class midsize pickup will soon be available in the U.S. This will be the company's answer to the midsize trucks comeback this year.
Just recently, Mercedes has been working on a four door AMG GT concept that was recently launched at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was created in part of the Mercedes-AMG 50th anniversary, Auto World News reports.
Mercedes-Benz head Volker Mornhinweg explained that midsize trucks are slowly coming back. Mornhinweg explained that General Motors is launching midsized trucks. They will be monitoring its developments very closely.
According to Automotive News, Nissan Motor Co. built the Mercedes-Benz X-class in Spain based from Nissan NP300 and Renault Alaskan. The X-class might find the competition hard if they manage to infiltrate the U.S. market.
The midsize pickup segment has grown 83 percent since its 77 percent downfall from 2000 to 2013. The increase on consumers can be accounted for the redesigning of Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.
Volker Mornhinweg really has no plans to bring Mercedes-Benz X-class to the US market. However, the rise of midsize trucks change their minds, Business Insider reported. if they do bring the car to the U.S., they would have to create the car domestically because their production facility in Argentina does not have the capacity to meet the U.S. demand.
The new model was first shown on October 2016 as part of their upcoming pickup truck. Mercedes-Benz was even quoted saying that the new X-Class will be the world's first true "premium" pickup truck.
"With the Mercedes-Benz pickup, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio," Mercedes-Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche explained during the ceremony last year. "Our target: We want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment."
The midsize pickup segment had grown more than 20 percent a year, dominating countries like Argentina, Australia and Brazil. To date, Mercedes-Benz X-class will be offered in Europe, Latin America, South America and Africa.
