French Rally driver Guerlain Chicherit accomplished something no one has ever done this weekend: perform the world's first backflip in a car.
While driving a modified Rally Spec Mini Countryman in the snowy mountains of Tignes, France, Chicherit drove up a ramp at the right speed to allow him to rotate the vehicle backwards enough before landing back on the snow according to The New York Daily News.
The Countryman was able to successful land the trick thanks to an 8-meter ramp constructed just for the jump. MINI and Monster Energy teamed up to sponsor the jump, which will most likely be used in a commercial for the energy drink to rival similar stunt commercials released by their top competitor Red Bull .
MINI leaked footage of Chicherit practicing the jump in January, and after hundreds of thousands of people have already viewed the record-breaking video on YouTube, there's a good chance they'll be sponsoring another world-record attempt in the near future.
The 34-year-old is also a four-time world freestyle skiing champion, has won the French rally championship twice, and was on the X-raid Team that won the 2012 and 2013 Dakar Rally championships.
The backflip is just the latest of world record attempts that BMW has achieved in the past year or so. In November, 28 UK gym members were able to get into a small three-door hatchback, thus besting the all-time record of 27 set in 2011 according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
