In this day and age where cars go faster and smarter, two of the highest honors in terms of speed come from BMW. Rolls Royce Phantom and ALPINA B7 Biturbo are among the fastest sedans currently in the market today.
While Tesla Model S P100D currently holds the record for the fastest accelerating sedan the word has ever seen, it does not measure up to BMW sedans in terms of speed. The Rolls Royce Phantom seems like that everyday car that commuters use to go about the town at the average speed, and it is, but it packs a pretty impressive potential for great speed. With a V12 engine that has a 6.7-liter capacity; it amounts to 453 hp in output.
BMW Blog added that with the utmost regard for general safety, the Phantom is electronically limited at 149 mph, which relatively fast dwarfed only by today's faster standards. Taking the limiter out, this Rolls Royce can go beyond and set the speedometer to impressive readings.
Another gem from BWW Group on the speed list is the more technically sophisticated BMW ALPINA B7 Biturbo. Notwithstanding the fact that it is not purely BMW, the similarities it has with the B7 series and that it was produced alongside said series makes it practically a BMW baby.
This model goes from 0-60 mph in a meager 3.6 seconds, a record that ties with the Porsche 911 Carrera S. In relative sizes, this feat is outstanding for a bigger car while its maximum speed of 205 mph even surpasses that of other supercars; all through a 4.4-liter V8 engine.
Like the Rolls Royce Phantom, it comes with safety. Car And Driver attest to reliable brakes that did not fail during the test drive, which is a good thing as cars that go on faster speeds definitely need extreme cautionary details.
There is no telling how the development of faster cars will go in the near future, but for now, BMW reigns supreme in the ranks of sedans that go fast and furious on the road. Though usual commute may not need daredevil speeds, it is always nice to know that your wheels can satisfy the need for speed.
