Mindy McCready Dead at 37: Embattled Country Singer Reportedly Committed Suicide at Arkansas Home

Country music singer Mindy McCready was found dead on the front porch of her Arkansas home Sunday, the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The singer of the chart-topping single "Guys Do It All The Time" was 37.

The singer is survived by two children, a 6-year-old boy and an infant, a 10-month-old boy, CNN reported.

Only a month ago the father of the infant, record producer David Wilson, was found dead outside the home as well, the article stated. Wilson also used a gun to end his life.

The singer led a turbulent life. She struggled with addiction and mental illness, often in the spotlight of the public eye. She made headlines in 2004 after being caught trying to obtain the painkiller OxyContin with a fake prescription, according to CNN.

She burst onto the music scene in 1996 with her debut album "Ten Thousand Angles," the record sold more than 2 million copies. 
Six of her albums and 14 songs made the Billboard County charts, the article reported.

In 2005 she was arrested for drunk driving was was beaten and choked by the father of her first child, Billy McKnight, the article stated. 
"Yes, things have been going bad," she told CNN in a 2005 interview. "I think it's God's way of getting my attention saying, 'You better wake up, girl. I have important stuff for you to do in life,' and I've definitely been preoccupied or sidetracked doing the wrong things."

McCready reportedly also attempted suicide multiple times in 2008. She would found unconscious in a hotel lobby after ingesting an a large amount of prescriptions pills and alcohol. Later in the year she was found in her Nasheville, Tenn. home with cuts on her wrists in an apparent suicide. She also attempted suicide while pregnant with her first child by tying to overdose on antidepressants, reports state.

The country music community offered condolences after they learned of McCready's death.

"My heart goes out to Mindy McCready's family. I knew her well," LeAnn Rimes said on Twitter, according to CNN. "It's a horrible tragedy. May peace be with her sons."

Singer Wynonna Judd wrote a series of tweets calling attention to addiction and mental illness.

"It breaks my heart what addiction continues to take from this life," she said.
