Five-Car Daytona Crash Started By Matt Kenseth Interrupts NASCAR Practice, Kurt Busch, Carl Edward, Mark Martin Also Involved (VIDEO)

This year's first NASCAR practice race was interrupted by a five-car crash at Daytona International Speedway according to the Associated Press. No one was injured in the crash.

The crash was started after Matt Kenseth collided with Kurt Busch just eight minutes into the race. Kenseth, who was trying to move down the track, hit Busch which caused a multicar crash that also involved fellow drivers Carl Edwards, Mark Martin and Juan Pablo Montoya.

"That was 100 percent driver error, my driver error," Kenseth said according to the Associated Press. "I had no idea anybody was there and he had a run at the same time and I came down in front of him and he couldn't get slowed up from staying out of me. It was a hundred percent my fault."

Busch's No. 78 Chevrolet suffered the most damage, causing his team to switch to their backup car for the next exhibition event which takes place tonight, Feb. 16. Martin and Edwards will also have to use their backups.

"It's tough," Busch said according to the Associated Press. "A lot of hard work goes into these cars, and six weeks of preparation can be trashed in six laps."

The crash came only 10 laps into the first event of Speedweeks. It was supposed to serve as a "learning session" for NASCAR's redesigned race car, the one they've called "Generation 6" as they Daytona 500 is just a week away.

Instead the race was almost like a test for Daytona.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne stated on Media Day this week that he thought practice would be conservative. That of course, didn't happen.

"There is definitely a shortage of cars right now," Kahne said according to the Associated Press. "There may not even be an unlimited practice because we can't lose a car. We lost that one at the test, which you don't expect, so we need to make it through."
