The growing interest towards electric vehicles, based on the recent surge in sales, is undeniable. With the 2017 Geneva Motor Show looming, car makers are starting to highlight their upcoming electric vehicle models. The latest to do so is Japanese carmaker Toyota which teased the motoring community with its new concept electric car.
Toyota recently released a teaser image of what appears to be the company's electric car concept. Dubbed as the i-TRIL, the Toyota electric car was meant to highlight the company's fruitful research into the electric car industry.
"Developed by Toyota Motor Europe (TME) in collaboration with the company's ED2 design studio in Nice, this electric motor powered concept showcases numerous innovative aspects of Toyota's research into ever better and more engaging environmentally-friendly mobility solutions," Toyota said in a statement acquired by Electrek.
Toyota's electric car concept features a one-plus-two seating arrangement. This means that there one seat upfront, and two seats in the back. At first glance, the car looks like a futuristic motorcycle with two added seat in the back. Toyota said that the concept is aimed at developing an alternative option to segment motorcycle and cars, according to Business Insider. The company is looking to change dynamics of urban driving with its concept car.
Toyota's electric car concept is also expected to feature the company's Active Lean technology which was first revealed alongside the company's i-Road concept. Active Lean is Toyota's technology which aims to improve the maneuverability of two-wheelers. The technology automatically moves the wheels either up or down in order to help drivers balance their vehicle and avoid falling over.
Motoring analysts said that the i-Road and i-TRIL concepts from Toyota show just how much committed the company is when it comes to the development of electric cars. Toyota has yet to confirm it, but there is a growing consensus among motoring experts that the company will present these concept cars at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
