The Porsche Cayman 718 received mixed reviews and perhaps, less enthusiasm since it was introduced in the market last year. This was the general sentiment expressed by automobile critics since the birth of the Porsche Cayman in 2005 and was actively praised then for it being a good enough sports car.

This entry level sports car has been touted as a poor replacement for its perfect predecessor, reported Car and Driver. That's because the new Cayman 718 has a four-cylinder engine instead of the six cylinder engine that it used to run on.

The Evo reported that its turbo-charged four cylinder engine does not have the same resonant sound as its older model. This makes the Porsche Cayman 718 and its close sibling the Porsche 718 Boxster, as the poster children of the automobile industry's new trend of downsizing turbocharged engines. Nevertheless, the new car has a near perfect weight distribution which is not apparent in other sports car models.

Although it has downsized to a four-cylinder engine, the new Porsche Cayman 718 has clocked a better performance time - with running speeds of 0 to 60 mph in as low as 4.2 seconds. This is attributed to the improved 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that generates a 350 horsepower, an increase of 25 more horsepower than the earlier 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine. Add to that a 309 lb-ft of torque which is 37 more than its predecessor and you get a pretty faster car.

Interior-wise, the new Cayman 718 has been upgraded to house an infotainment system. It's comparable to the Porsche 911, as well as some new LED lighting and Bi-Xenon headlights.

But working on the Porsche Cayman 718 and its sister car, the Porsche Boxster, the tuning company TechArt has tweaked these two models and given them an upgrade. Notable enhancements are upgrades to 400 and 480 horsepower (354 lb-ft of torque) to the two models' four-cylinder engines. To create a much more booming sound, TechArt also attached titanium tailpipes with carbon fiber tips to the two cars, reported Car Scoops. Either way, the new Cayman 718 is one sports car to watch out for.
