Velar: The Newest Range Rover Is Set To Make Its Official World Debut In London Next Month

Land Rover has released images of the new Range Rover, and it is looking to be quite impressive. The new SUV is called Velar, and it is designed to bridge the gap between the Evoque and Sport.

Land Rover's new SUV is called Velar. The Velar was codenamed for prototypes in the 1960s but is now the name of the newest SUV from the British car manufacturer. Land Rover's newest SUV will be sitting between fellow SUVs Evoque and Sport regarding price, specs, features, and performance. It is the fourth SUV in the SUV line and is expected to live up to a reputation of being rugged yet refined.

The new Velar SUV is expected to compete directly with other coupe-SUVs such as the BMW X6, Mercedes GLC Coupe, and the Porsche Macan. Land Rover promises that the vehicle will feature revolutionary tech and elegant simplicity.

Speaking about the new Velar, Land Rover chief designer Gerry McGovern said, "We call the Velar the avant-garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamor, modernity, and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."

The new SUV is said to use unique sustainable materials along with advanced technologies. There is speculation that the Velar will sport the same engines as the Discovery and Discovery Sport.

The new Velar SUV is expected to borrow hardware found on the Jaguar F-Pace. This could mean that it will be using aluminum-based technology to better performance and weigh less.

There are no other known details on the Velar except for it being a five-door SUV with a large panoramic moonroof; twin scoops around the rear spoiler, and a touchscreen known to be the widest in a Land Rover. The Velar will make its official world debut in London on March 2, 2017.
