Japanese automaker Nissan has tapped the celebrity power of Margot Robbie and picked the 'Suicide Squad' star to be its Nissan Electric Vehicle ambassador. As part of the promotion, Robbie even gets to drive the Nissan BladeGlider concept car.

The Nissan BladeGlider is inspired by the DeltaWing race car. According to CNet, the car has a center-mounted driver seat and two passenger seat on each side. The promotional video shows Robbie driving one of the two BladeGliders as they race in what appears to be a street circuit in Monaco.

The video confirms that the Nissan BladeGlider will be fully powered by electricity. The concept car can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in less than one second, according to the Nissan video. Nissan unveiled the BladeGlider concept car in 2016, but the company confirmed it has yet to finalize its plan to officially bring it to the market. Nissan claims that the car has a 220kWh battery pack, a capacity that is similar to the ones integrated on electric buses.

Nissan did not add any details about Robbie's appointment as ambassador of the company's EV division, nor what her primarily role will be. Nevertheless, many motoring analysts said that employing the Robbie's star power to promote electric vehicles is a smart idea.

In a statement acquired by Electrek, Robbie said, "It's a really exciting time for electric vehicles. More people are choosing to go electric, leading the way to a more sustainable future and the Nissan BladeGlider hints at the future of smarter performance cars."

Nissan is poised to release the new Nissan Leaf in the coming months. The company has even started putting up charging stations across the United States and other countries where the company plans to release the electric vehicle. With Nissan tapping Robbie to promote its brand, the company picked the right time and appropriate star to make the public aware of the benefits of driving electric vehicles.
