2017 Ford Fusion Sport: Amazingly Powerful, Surprisingly Fast

Sport trims of mid-size sedans are not really, well, sporty. The "sporty" upgrades don't necessarily mean a sportier more adrenaline-pumping feel to them but the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport is an exception.

The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. The 2017 Fusion Sport actually features a 2.7-liter twin turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine with an output of 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The only way the 2017 Fusion Sport can reach that level of power is if it is on 93 octane gasoline. When it does run on just regular 91 octane gasoline, numbers are currently unknown as the car manufacturer would prefer to show the bigger numbers.

However, even when running on 91 octane gasoline, the 2017 Fusion Sport amazingly launches. One can hear the eagerness in the engine right from the beginning. It pulls really strong all the way to red on the speedometer.

Apart from the engine, the acceleration can be attributed to the vehicle's all-wheel drive system. Tire grip is impressive and not one bit of struggling is actually noticed.

The six-speed automatic that's paired with the engine is responsive enough although it could need a little more work with downshifts. The 2017 Fusion Sport comes with standard wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The Ford Fusion Sport 2017 model is able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 5.3 seconds. This technically makes it faster than the 2017 Honda Accord V6 by around 0.4 seconds and the 2015 Toyota Camry XSE by 0.8. The 2017 Fusion Sport is surprisingly even faster than a 2.3-liter I-4 EcoBoost Ford Mustang by a full second.

With its speed one would expect ride comfort to have been compromised. This is not the case with the 2017 Fusion Sport. The cabin is remarkably quiet and so is its engine. The interior design features nice amenities that borrow from higher trims including advanced driver-assist tech.

The retail price of the 2017 Fusion Sport starts at US$34,350. Additional features are available such as the Driver Assist package at US$1,625.
